Backstrap

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 8, 2026

1. Overview

Backstrap (“we”, “our”, or “the site”) provides a free, browser-based backtest engine and educational content about algorithmic trading. This Privacy Policy explains what limited data is collected when you use the site and how it is handled.

Plain English summary: the backtest engine runs entirely in your browser. We do not operate a backend that stores your strategies, uploaded files, or results. Third-party services such as Google AdSense and analytics providers may set their own cookies — those are governed by their respective policies.

2. Data we do NOT collect

  • Uploaded CSV files — parsed in your browser via JavaScript and never transmitted to our servers.
  • Strategy parameters and backtest results— stored only in your browser’s local storage so they persist across visits on the same device.
  • Account information — the site does not currently offer user accounts.
  • Payment information — the site does not process payments.

3. Data that may be collected by third parties

The site may include the following third-party services. Each service’s data practices are governed by its own policy.

  • Google AdSense — displays advertisements. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info.
  • Web analytics — we may use a privacy-friendly analytics provider to count page views and understand which pages are popular. No personally identifying information is recorded by us.
  • Hosting / CDN — server logs maintained by our hosting provider may include your IP address and user agent for standard operational, security, and abuse-prevention purposes.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use browser local storage (not cookies) to remember your backtest configuration on this device. Third-party services described above may use cookies. You can clear or block cookies through your browser settings; blocking them will not break the backtest engine but may affect ad personalisation and analytics.

5. Your rights

Because we do not maintain a database of users, there is generally no personal data on file with us to access, correct, or delete. For data held by third parties (e.g. Google), please refer to their respective controls and policies. To clear your locally stored backtest configuration, click the Reset to defaults button on the backtest page or clear site data via your browser.

Residents of jurisdictions with applicable data-protection laws (e.g. EU GDPR, UK GDPR, California CCPA) retain all statutory rights with respect to data held by third parties on their behalf.

6. Children's privacy

The site is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in the user’s jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
